NDDOT wins International and Regional AAMVA awards

STATEWIDE, N.D. – The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) has awarded the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) Highway Safety Division the 2025 AAMVA Communications Social Media Award for its Vision Zero Schools initiative. This recognition includes both a Regional Award and the International Award, marking the second time the Vision Zero team has earned top honors for social media outreach on both levels.

The awards specifically recognize the Vision Zero School social media campaign. To welcome students back to school, NDDOT launched targeted Facebook ads featuring Vision Zero School public service announcements (PSAs). The campaign reached local communities with timely reminders to prioritize traffic safety.

Vision Zero Schools is a program empowering students to serve as traffic safety advocates in their schools and communities. Student leaders select a key safety focus – such as seat belt use, distracted driving or speeding – and promote it through banners, PSAs and other creative outreach.

“This award reflects the commitment of North Dakota students, teachers and community partners,” said Karin Mongeon, NDDOT Highway Safety Division Director. “By giving students a platform to lead safety conversations, we’re engaging their peers and helping create safer roads for everyone.”

The AAMVA Communications Awards honor excellence in communications and safety initiatives among motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies across North America. The Social Media Award specifically recognizes outstanding use of platforms like Facebook, Instagram and X to engage audiences, innovate messaging and drive measurable impact.

The awards were presented at AAMVA’s Annual International Conference in Phoenix, AZ.
