Free teen driving safety event – Registration still open

For Immediate Release: Jun 12 2025

Bismarck, ND – The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is reminding parents there’s still time to register their teen for Vision Zero Driving Skills for Success (DSFS), a free, hands-on driving program focused on teen traffic safety.

Teens ages 14 to 18 with a valid permit or license are invited to attend on:

·        Wednesday, July 9 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks

·        Thursday, August 7 at the Veterans Memorial Arena in West Fargo

Two DSFS sessions are available at each location: 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 1–4 p.m.

DSFS participants can also sign up for Alive at 25, a defensive driving course proven to help reduce crash risks among young drivers. Class size is limited to 30 per session and runs from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 1–5 p.m.

DSFS gives teens the opportunity to:

·        Practice real-world driving on a skill-based obstacle course

·        Try simulators that highlight the dangers of impaired and distracted driving

·        Learn the life-saving importance of seat belt use

While teen drivers represent only 6% of licensed drivers in North Dakota, they were involved in nearly 20% of all crashes and 6% of fatal crashes in 2023. Vision Zero DSFS is designed to give teens the tools they need to be safer, more responsible drivers—helping advance the goal of zero fatalities on North Dakota roads.

Register now at VisionZero.ND.gov. A confirmation email will be sent by NDDOT prior to the event.

Parents are encouraged to attend DSFS with their teen. However, the Alive at 25 course is designed as a teen-only classroom experience.
