Bismarck, ND – Vision Zero Driving Skills for Success (DSFS), a free interactive program aimed at improving teen driver safety, is coming to Grand Forks and West Fargo this summer. The one-day event offers young drivers hands-on experience designed to build confidence and promote safe driving habits.
Teens ages 14 to 18 with a valid driver’s permit or license are encouraged to register for one of the upcoming sessions:
· Wednesday, July 9 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks
· Thursday, August 7 at the Veterans Memorial Arena in West Fargo
Each event offers two time slots: 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 1–4 p.m.
DSFS features engaging, hands-on traffic safety activities, including:
· Driving through a challenging obstacle course
· Practicing parallel parking
· Experiencing simulators that demonstrate the dangers of impaired and distracted driving
· Learning the importance of always wearing a seat belt
Driving Skills for Success participants can also choose to take the Alive at 25 defensive driving course, which focuses on reducing crash risks for young drivers. This four-hour class is available from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 1–5 p.m. and is limited to the first 30 registrants per session.
In North Dakota, teen drivers make up only 6% of licensed drivers but were involved in nearly 20% of all crashes in 2023. They also accounted for 6% of fatal crashes. Programs like DSFS play a critical role in reaching Vision Zero’s goal: eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads.
Register now at VisionZero.ND.gov. A confirmation email will be sent by the North Dakota Department of Transportation prior to the event.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend Driving Skills for Success alongside their teen. However, the Alive at 25 classroom course is intended for teen participants only.
