Larimore High School Hosts Vision Zero Day to Promote Traffic Safety
LARIMORE, N.D. - Larimore High School was officially recognized as North Dakota’s newest Vision Zero School during a special Vision Zero Day event held Wednesday, April 30.
The event celebrated Larimore students’ commitment to traffic safety and featured a variety of interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of safe driving habits.
As part of the morning events, Vision Zero leaders recognized student advocates who have stepped forward to promote the Vision Zero mission within their school and the greater Larimore community. The event also included the unveiling of new Vision Zero public service announcement (PSA) videos and a banner, both focused on raising speed awareness among their peers.
Students participated in the SIDNE (Simulated Impaired Driving Experience) Driving Course, offering them a hands-on experience demonstrating the dangers of impaired driving. Additionally, representatives from the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol provided impaired driving education sessions, emphasizing the real-world consequences of risky driving behaviors.
“Vision Zero is a big picture initiative, but seeing it done at the community level here in Grand Forks County is going to impact our future,” says Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Schneider. “Our office looks forward to working alongside these students to help keep our roads safe!”
This event underscored Larimore High School’s dedication to making traffic safety a priority for every student, every trip and for the wider community.
Larimore joins a growing list of Vision Zero Schools dedicated to eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries in North Dakota. Schools interested in participating in Vision Zero Schools can contact the NDDOT Safety Public Information Program Manager at lwahlman@nd.gov.
