Last chance for teens to register and participate in Ford Driving Skills for Life in Bismarck

Bismarck, ND - The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is seeking teen drivers with a permit or license between the ages of 14-18 to attend a FREE, one-day Ford Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) safety event in Bismarck on Saturday, May 12 at the Bismarck Event Center. The deadline to register for this traffic safety event is Friday, May 4.
There will be two sessions available to attend from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is limited to 50 teens per session. The Alive at 25 course will also be available for those teens who are interested. Alive at 25 is an interactive classroom course designed to reduce the likelihood of young drivers ending up in a motor vehicle crash.
The Ford DSFL program allows participants to get involved in a variety of traffic safety activities. Teens will have the opportunity to drive through a challenging course with various obstacles, visually see how a vehicle can disappear in a truck’s blind spots and experience simulators that focus on impaired driving, distracted driving and the importance of wearing your seat belt.
Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people ages 15-24 in the United States. In 2017 in North Dakota, one teen driver crash occurred every three hours. Because of these statistics, it is important to continually educate teen drivers and provide them with opportunities to enhance their driving skills to move toward the goal of zero fatalities and serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes in North Dakota through the Vision Zero initiative.
