STATEWIDE, N.D. – As motorcycle season kicks into high gear, the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and American Bikers Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) of North Dakota are reminding riders that safety starts long before the kickstand goes up.
Motorcycle safety courses are available statewide for riders of all experience levels. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience behind the handlebars, a rider safety course can sharpen your skills and boost your confidence on the road.
Vehicle fatalities in North Dakota are decreasing, but the proportion of motorcyclist fatalities is increasing. Preliminary data shows that 19% of the 89 motor vehicle fatalities in 2024 were motorcyclists.
“Every rider, no matter how seasoned, can benefit from continued education,” said Lonnie Bertsch of ABATE of North Dakota. “Taking a safety course is one of the best ways to protect yourself on the road. Ride smart, ride prepared and always Wear All The Gear, All The Time (ATGATT).”
Basic and experienced rider courses are offered at multiple locations throughout North Dakota during the summer months. Riders can register or find more information at http://ndmsp.com.
