NDDOT Reminds Drivers about US 52 Safety Corridor near Velva

Minot, ND - The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) wants to remind drivers to watch for enhanced safety features as part of the newly implemented Safety Corridor on Highway 52 from Brooks Junction to Velva.
While traveling this 35-mile designated stretch of highway, drivers may notice additional signage indicating reduced speed, no-passing zones, information about road conditions, and reminders to buckle up, drive sober, and distraction free. In addition to these signs, pavement markings are more visible, especially in dark or wet conditions.
“Safety Corridors are one way we’ll reach the goal of Vision Zero,” explains Safety Division Director Karin Mongeon. “The Safety Corridor locations showed a higher potential for traffic crashes based on traffic counts, speeds, and historical data. These areas will see an increase in law enforcement as a reminder to drivers to take personal responsibility when driving by obeying all traffic laws and posted speed limits.”
The Safety Corridor will be monitored for effectiveness in severe crash reduction and may be undesignated after a period of time. Safety Corridors are a Vision Zero solution in which Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency Response, and Education work together to help reach Vision Zero’s goal of zero fatalities on North Dakota roads.
A second Safety Corridor has been implemented on Highway 85 from Watford City to ND 68, with a third Safety Corridor planned for the summer of 2020 on Highway 83 from Bismarck to Washburn.
