Safety Award Nominations

Vision Zero Safety Awards

The Vision Zero Traffic Safety Awards recognize law enforcement, transportation representatives, engineers, public health representatives, and other traffic safety agencies from across the state for their commitment to traffic safety. The awards are for those who show outstanding service and dedication to accomplish the overall goal of Vision Zero, to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads for the period of October 1, 2021 - September 30, 2022

Recipients will be recognized during the Vision Zero Partner Conference on May 16, 2023.

Review information on all awards here. The deadline to submit nominations is Saturday, December 31, 2022. Forms can be emailed to lwahlman@nd.gov or mailed to:

Commemorative Coin/Officer of the Year

Law enforcement officers who have demonstrated a commitment to enforcing traffic safety laws will be awarded a commemorative coin for their efforts. The SFN 59114 application form will need to be completely filled out, along with a few nomination questions that describe the contributions the officer has made to traffic safety during that fiscal year. 

Officers nominated for the Commemorative Coin will also be considered for Traffic Safety Officer of the Year.

Beyond the Traffic Stop

The Beyond the Traffic Stop Award is designed to recognize those officers who made outstanding cases resulting from a traffic stop.

Child Passenger Safety/Technician/Instructor 

The Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Award is designed to recognize CPS technicians and/or instructors for their commitment to child passenger safety through participation in check-up events, public education opportunities, teaching efforts, and dedication to a local, area-wide or state-wide CPS program.

Vision Zero Outreach

The Vision Zero Outreach Award is for is for individual(s) and/or organization(s) who have gone above and beyond and actively play a role in spreading the message of Vision Zero to decrease motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries through their outreach and education.

Media

The North Dakota Traffic Safety Media Award is for the reporter/news organization that has been fair, balanced and informative in reporting transportation/traffic related issues on radio, television, newspaper, or Internet and social media venues.

Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services Award was designed to recognize EMS providers for their commitment and dedication to keeping North Dakota roads safe through public education opportunities, teaching efforts and dedication to a local, area-wide or statewide road safety.

Vision Zero Schools

The Vision Zero Schools Award recognizes a school for its dedication to becoming a Vision Zero School and establishing a culture of personal responsibility where motor vehicle crashes are viewed as preventable..

Honor Roll

The Honor Roll Award allows individuals, teams and organizations that have made a difference within their agency, community, or the state to be recognized. Recipients of this award have demonstrated long-term contributions to traffic safety and have exceeded or gone beyond that which is generally accepted as being part of his/her responsibility.
